Five Big Keys for UGA in 2007

1. Developing the D: With the loss of Moses and Johnson and the late departure from Oliver UGA has lost its three best defensive players from 06. CWM will not have time to bring along this defense slowly with OSU and USC coming to Athens early. Our secondary should be steady despite the loss of Oliver, but the DL and LB crew have to mature quickly. It will be very interesting to see how Battle and Howard deal with playing on tired legs.

2. Bobo's Boys: I think ever one in Dawg Nation is excited about the possibilities that a Bobo lead offense brings to the table. Bobo seems like he will throw a little more variety in to the offensive diet but the key may be his ability to stick with the run in hard times. With the stable of talent UGA has in the backfield we shouldn't have to fool to many teams. It will be fun to see what he has up his sleeve after a full off season to prepare.

3. It's in the Hands: There is no doubt that the biggest dissapointment lately has been the poor play at wide reciever for UGA. With guys like Mo Mass, Bryant, Durham and Harris the dawgs are not short on talent. In fact the list can go on and on with big time ability type guys but recently it has not been evident on the playing field. If UGA expects to win an SEC the wideouts must step up their games.

4. The Seniors: The Seniors always seem to form the personality of the team at UGA and this year should be no different. If there are great things ahead guys like Lumpkin, Miller and Kelin Johnson must guide this team. I really like this group of seniors and their styles. I hope it translates in to another championship season.

5. Injuries: Unfortunately UGA is once again thin at several key positions going in to the Fall. There is talent at all positions but at some spots the talent is streached pretty thin. The two positions that cause the most heartburn are LB and DT. At both spots UGA is very green behind the starting group....that is not to say the backups can't handle it but getting thrown in to SEC action can be overwhelming. We need to avoid the injury bug if we are after a big result in 07.

2007 SEC Predictions: Eastern 5th Place

Dawg Days will be listing our SEC Predictions over the next week starting from the bottom:

Eastern Division:

5th Place: Kentucky Wildcats

The Kentucky Wildcats had a break through season under Coach Rich Brooks in his fourth season at UK. The Wildcats managed eight wins and big bowl victory over the Clemson Tigers. The success of the 2006 campaign gave Brooks a break from the heat he had been under from the fans in Lexington. If the Wildcats can continue to improve they have an oppurtunity to make some noise in the SEC East again this season.

The Wildcats are lucky enough to return a senior quaterback in Andre Woodson that has proven to be an All SEC player in his previous seasons. Woodson is joined in the backfield by running back Rafael Little. Little averaged almost 5 yards per carry last season and served as a home run threat for the rushing game. At wide reciever the Wildcats return Keenan Burton who hauled in over 1,000 yards last year and found the endzone 12 times as well. With these three returning as seniors the Kentucky Wildcats should be a force on the offensive side.

The defense of the Cats will need to improve if they hope to jump in to the top tier of the SEC. They do return eight starters of the defensive side of the ball. Woodyard and Kelley are very solid at line backer and sophmore Micah Johnson has the capability to be a star. They secondary will need to find a corner back to compliment Lindley who emerged last year as a freshmen.

The Cats must once again compete with a stacked Eastern Division and they have to face a preseason top ten Louisville team. The rest of the out of conference schedule is very managable and with a couple toss ups the Wildcats should have a very good chance at another bowl game spot.

Season Prediction: 6-6

Programs that We Love to Hate!!!

There are just a few programs that we at Dawg Days love to hate. We are going to list the five football programs that make are blood pressure go on the rise and you tell us where you agree or disagree.

The List:

1. Notre Dame: Is there any program that gets the benefit of the doubt more than the Domers? At Dawg Days we are still flying high after the Fighting Tigers of LSU put a beat down on Brady Quinn and the boys from South Bend. If they never won another game it would be too soon for our liking.

2. Oklahoma: There always seems to be a mountain of hype behind the Sooners and lately they have not earned their worth on the field. Stoops is a quality coach no doubt but is any one else sick of hearing him mentioned as an all time great.

3. Clemson: This one goes way back for Dawg fans and we are no different in that regard. Under Tommy's guidance the Tigers have accomplished what.....? They always seem to finish strong and therefore they recieve praise going in to the following season. Also their fan base has yet to accept their demise as a program.

4. Tennessee: If you can smell that from where you are it is most likely the UT program. It is dirty and the stench has gotten steadily worse the last few seasons. Is there anything more enjoyable than seeing them go 4-7 in 05? If there is we haven't found it.

5. West Virginia: We dislike them a lot because we created the monster!!! All of a sudden there are WVU fans around our area.....who knew? We look forward to the time that Slaton and White go on their merry way and WVU retreats back in to the hole they came from.

2007 SEC Predictions: Western 6th Place

Dawg Days will be listing our SEC Predictions over the next week starting from the bottom:

Western Division:
The Mississippi State Bulldogs have fallen on hard times over the last few years and with no changes being made in Starkville one wonders if improvement will be made this season. Coach Croom certainly did not walk in to a program stocked with talent and it will take time for any coach to win at Miss State. However, the patience of the faithful will wear thin if there is not signs of a turnaround. Last year Miss State did notch a win against Coach Croom's alma mater Alabama, but at 6-6 Alabama can't be counted as a program building win.

The issues for the Bulldogs started behind the center at the siganl callers spot. That spot saw several faces and the position was not really settled until Michael Henig returned from his early season injuries. Henig looks poised to improve upon his play from last season and to solidify his spot at the quarterback position. Anthony Dixon was a standout at the running back position last year and he figures to be a key part of the offensive attack in 2007. If Miss St. wants to improve their passing numbers the OL has to provide holes for Dixon, or teams will load the box again in 2007.

The Bulldog defense showcases a good bit of young athletic talent that can help form a solid group for 2007. Linebackers Jamon Hughes and Jamar Cheney really get to the ball well and they could both be in the hunt for All SEC honors this season.

The 2007 schedule is very tough with a trip to Morgan Town to face powerhouse West Virginia and a season opener against national championship contender LSU. The Bulldgos also must travel to Auburn and Arkansas this season.

Season Prediction: 3-9

2007 SEC Predictions: Eastern 6th Place

Dawg Days will be listing our SEC Predictions over the next week starting from the bottom:

Eastern Division:
6th: Vanderbilt: The commodores have come a long way under the watchful eye of former Furman coach Bobby Johnson. Johnson has brought a hard nosed approach and and has eliminated the days when Vandy could be counted as an automatic win in the SEC. The Commodores came in to Athens last year and shocked the Georgia Dawgs on their Homecoming weekend. That win certainly serves as the biggest in the Bobby Johnson tenure and it appears as though there are better days ahead in Nashville.

The 2007 Commodores return a solid core of players including standout quarterback Chris Nickson. Earl Bennett will again be the biggest target of Nickson and with those two Vandy should display a big play capability. The Defesne does lose several key players including defensive tackle Ray Brown.

Unfortunatley the Commodores must again compete with a loaded SEC Eastern Division. They will likely go in to all their Eastern Division matchups as the underdog this season. Vandy once again will play the defending ACC Champion Wake Forest Deamon Deacons this season as well making for a tough schedule. Look for Vandy to pull another upset this year.....

Season Record Prediction: 5-7
